Changes of Colorectal Cancer Diagnostics and Hospitalizations during First Wave of COVID-19 Pandemic in Lithuania

Purpose: Our aim was to see the possible effect of first COVID pandemic wave in Lithuania on colorectal cancer (CRC) preventive, diagnostic and treatment procedures.Methods: A retrospective analysis performed using database National Cancer Institute, Lithuania. We have divided patients into two groups: group 1 – treated during nonpandemic period (2019 January 2019 July 31) 2 (2020 2020 31). analyzed numbers screening, therapeutic colonoscopies performed, for CRC periods.Results: In general, 1318 lower gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures were 862 second group, which 34.6% less compared group. The included 672 (51%) colonoscopies, 172 (13%) day surgeries 474 (36%) screening programmes. 2, 456 (34.6%) underwent diagnostics treatment: 141 (21%) 93 (54%) surgeries, 222 (47%) programmes, 26 hospitalized surgical (196 vs 170).Conclusion: study reveals worrying changes timely access COVID-19 that possibly provoked rise cases with advanced stage CRC. However, despite numerical difference between groups existed, do not reach statistical significant level.
